The previous record of 255 was set by Jonathan “Super” Squibb, a three-time champ who fell to Kobayashi along with favorite son Bill “El Wingador” Simmon, a five-peater. “He was great,” said Squibb of his insatiable rival. “If I was going to lose, I was going to lose fantastically.” Squibb’s consolation prize was setting a personal best of 271 wings. After the sauce settled, Kobayashi, who took home $20,000 for his forthcoming intestinal trouble, told reporters he had room for 100 more.
